Solution:
Close the document, then choose Open from the File menu and pull down the "Files of Type:" list and set it to Word Documents, then reopen the document.

A paragraph copied out of one document changes appearance when pasted into a different document.<Top of Page>

Solution:
Change the paragraph style in one document to match the corresponding style in the other document.

Explanation:
Styles are collections of attributes that can be applied all at once by selecting a stylename from the Style list in the Standard toolbar or from
the list in the Format Style dialog box. Attributes can include font, font size, line spacing, justification, etc.

If you don't assign a particular style to a paragraph, then Word assigns the "normal" style to it.

You can modify the normal style in one document without affecting the normal style in a different document. If you move a normal paragraph from one
document into a different one, the paragraph will take on the attributes of the normal style in the destination document.

To check this out, open up each document and select the Style command on the Format menu. At the bottom of the Format Style dialog box, you will see a
description of the attributes assigned to the normal style. Compare the two descriptions and see if they agree. If not, click the Modify button and make
any changes desired. To carry the changes forward to future documents, click the Add to template checkbox before accepting the changes.

Word shows only one or two fonts in its Font list. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Select a different printer. Word shows only those fonts supported by the current printer.

Word automatically changes the format or content of my document. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Choose AutoCorrect on the Tools menu, then click the tab called AutoFormat As You Type. There you can uncheck the various options that perturb you. (I've got all of them turned off!)

Bottoms of pages don't print. <Top of Page>

Notes:
A lot of printers (inkjets in particular) are unable to print closer than .67 inches or so from the bottom edge of the paper.

Solution:
Choose Page Setup on the File menu and increase the bottom margin and footer distance settings to a value greater than 0.67 inches.

The Page Up and Page Down keys don't work like they used to. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Set the target of these keys by clicking on the "Select Browse Object" button at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar and select a target icon of your choosing.

Documents get larger every time they're saved, even if material is deleted from the document. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Choose Options on the Tools menu and click the Save tab, then uncheck the Allow Fast Saves option. The fast saves option saves both the original version of your file plus a list of changes that you've made to the file. So even if you delete something the file will get larger. In certain cases, files saved in this way can become corrupt or respond in an unusual way. As a result, most heavy users of Word turn off the fast saves feature.

Page numbers, some dates, tables of contents, and other information is missing from the document and replaced with codes such as { PAGE } and { TIME }, etc. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Choose Options on the Tools menu, then click the View tab. Uncheck the Field Codes checkbox.

Document appears as text with lots of codes at end of document. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Close the document, then click Open on the File menu, pull down Files of Type, select Word Documents and re-open the document.

Word changes the number of leading or trailing spaces when cutting and pasting text. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Choose Options on the Tools menu, then click the Edit tab and uncheck Use smart cut and paste. While there, why not explore the other options on the Edit tab and all the other tabs. You may find a couple of features that would help you, if you enable them. Or, you might find a couple that are driving you crazy and you can disable them. I'm not a big fan of all the auto- and smart- features but I love the fact that they can be turned on and off to suit individual users.

Word fails to find misspelled words in some or all locations of a document. <Top of Page>

Solution:
Select a language setting other than "no proofing" for the affected text.

The "no proofing" setting can be applied or removed manually by selecting Language|Set Language on the Tools menu. The same setting can be assigned to or removed from a paragraph style. To find out if a paragraph style has the "no proofing" language setting, choose Style on the Format menu.
